The Gettysburg TIS has not been heard for several years. * * * Besides the FCC opening the "clear" channels to many more stations, the most significant change in conditions has been the quality of my equipment. In 1972 and following years, I had the luxury of two hollow state receivers, Hallicrafters SX-43 and SX-99. More importantly the antenna used for crucial nulling of signals was a Worcester Labratories Space Magnet, or SM-1. Although not as sensitive as an outdoor (long) long-wire, the SM-1 did offer more DX due to its excellent directional properties. Today, I'm using portable receivers. Radio Shack radios are good but come nowhere close to the Hallicrafters. The [note 1] indicates stations audible from September to April when the atmospheric noise of summer is not prevalent. I live in a rural area and fortunately man-made noise on the band is at a minimum, only sporadic. The worst QRN now is from the monitors of computers in the house, much more than a regular TV screen!
